MIANWALI: Anti-Smuggling Organization (AS)) impounded non-duty paid Hino truck loaded with non-duty paid foreign origin fresh apples 18000 kilograms in their action.
Sources told Customs Today that anti-smuggling squad received credible information from their source that a huge quantity of foreign origin apples loaded on the Hino truck will be transported from Mianwali.
Customs Superintendent Sardar Muhammad constituted special teams including Inspector Tanveer Bajwa, Mahmood Dogar, Amir Mumtaz Bajwa and others to thwart attempt of smuggling.
Acting upon secret information anti-smuggling squad enhanced the monitoring of the coming goods in the region and deployed more staff on various routes to foil any bid of smuggling.
Anti-Smuggling Organization team intercepted Hino truck bearing registration no: TKW-093 Lasbela near Chandni Chowk Mianwali loaded with Afghani fresh apples 18000 kilograms.
Customs teams asked suspect truck driver Asmatullah son of Sibail resident of district South Waziristan to produce the legal import documents of foreign origin apples regarding their possession but he failed to do so. It was revealed that recovered apples were non-duty-paid and being transported to local markets of South Punjab.
Anti-Smuggling Organization shifted the detained fresh apples to the Faisalabad Dry Port along with the truck. Recovered apples seized under Customs Act 1969. Further investigations are still underway.
