MIANWALI: Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) seized Iranian origin raisin worth Rs20,94,000 and also impounded trailer being used for transportation.
Sources told Customs Today, that Collector Asif Mehmood Jah received credible information regarding the smuggling of raisin.
He immediately constituted ASO team comprising Superintendent Sardar Muhammad, Inspector Tanveerul Haq, Amer Mumtaz Bajwa, driver Riasat Hussain, sepoys Saifullah, Ghulam Mohyuddin, Muhammad Yousaf, Sher Ahmed, Faiz Ahmed and Naeemullah
After that the ASO team intercepted a trailer bearing registration no: TLE-878 near Toll Plaza M.M Road and recovered 5500 kilograms of raisin.
The ASO team asked the driver who was later identified as Shah Mahmood son of Muhammad Afzal to produce any documentary evidence for the lawful possession of said goods. But the driver could not produce any documentary evidence.
The smuggled raisin was seized under Import and Export Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act 1969. ASO has filed a case against the smugglers and has started further investigations.
