SAN DIEGO: A tractor-trailer that was held up at Otay Mesa cargo facility supposedly carrying a shipment of lockers contained more-than one and a half tons of marijuana.
It was a try to smuggle the pot from Mexico into Southern California.
Customs and Border Protection agents say a tractor-trailer pulled up at the Otay Mesa cargo facility in San Diego supposedly carrying a shipment of lockers.
But imaging equipment and a drug-detecting dog indicated the rig might be carrying something else.
Sure enough, authorities say a search of the trailer turned up 140 packages of pot weighing more than 3,300 pounds. The truck was seized and the driver, a Mexican citizen, was turned over to Homeland Security investigators.
