ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has initiated the recovery proceeding against twelve officers of FBR Headquarters and field officers on account of medical reimbursement amounting to Rs2.19 million.
Sources told Customs Today that Federal Board of Revenue headquarters and its two field offices made payments to twelve officials for medical treatment from private hospitals. They were neither referred by any authorized medical attendant nor did they obtain No Objection Certificate (NOC) from any approved government institute.
The payments also included different charges on account of room charges, surgeons’ charges, consultants’ visit fee, registration fee, assistant’s fee, dressing, resuscitation charges, hospital charges and doctors’ fee etc. which were not admissible under the law. This resulted into in-admissible payment on account of medical reimbursement amounting to Rs2.19 million during last year.
According to Finance Division regulation wing office memorandum No. F.6 1(1) R-10/2010-171-2011 dated 24th March , 2011 regarding grant of medical allowance to civil employees of the federal government, it is decided in consultation with the ministry of health that serving and retired civil employees of the federal government or member of his or her family suffering from chronic diseases shall be entitled for reimbursement of amount spent on account of purchases of medicines for medical treatment at OPD. Federal Board of Revenue has ordered action and accelerated the process of recovery of government dues.
