ISLAMABAD: The officers and staff of the Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad will hold a welcome party in honor of Dr Saeed Khan Jadoon on 22nd of August Financial Year 2017-18.
The newly transferred Collector Dr. Saeed was working at the MCC Quetta as Collector where he spent a successful tenure. The MCC Quetta told CT that the Collectorate of Quetta accelerated the anti-smuggling efforts which resulted in increase of revenue and seizures during Dr. Saeed’s tenure.
During his time, the smuggling trend through trucks and buses had been almost nominal. Transportation of smuggling goods has been shifted through buddies, handcarts and pickups to bypass the route checkposts of existing Chaman–Quetta route.
Due to effective measures taken by Dr. Saeed regarding the clearances at Customs Stations, import/export has also increased. Reinvigorated enforcement efforts by the Frontier Corps and Police, smugglers have been forced to conduct legal import/export through Customs Stations working under the Collectorate of Quetta, sources told.
The sources said that, during period of Collector Dr. Saeed at the MCC Quetta, the Customs Department has undertaken new projects for the facilitation of trade. “Pakistan Gate” at Pak-Iran border of Taftan is being jointly constructed by the Frontier Corps Balochistan and Pakistan Customs.
The construction of mosque, restrooms, guestrooms, restaurants, wash-rooms and baggage hall for passengers’ immigration has also been undertaken with the efforts of Dr. Saeed Jadoon. With the efforts of Jadoon, the MCC Quetta has acquired four acres of land from the commissioner which will enable Quetta Division to expand trade and extend baggage facilitation at Taftan border.
