KUANTAN: The state Customs Department seized liquor worth RM1.4 million involving RM15.2 million in unpaid duty and taxes.
Pahang Customs director Datuk Sarip Ismail said an enforcement division team recovered 73,976 bottles of liquor in four containers at the Customs inspection bay at the Kuantan Port on May 18. “The four containers were falsely declared as containing granular sulphur.
“All four containers then were seized and taken to the enforcement store,” he said. He said initial investigation revealed that the containers were registered under an importer, who not aware of the additional four containers.
No arrests however have been made in the case. He said the case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967 for importing uncustomed goods.
