KUALA LUMPUR: The Tamil Peravai Malaysia has hit back at critics who have questioned its handling of about RM4mil allocated for the Sri Lankan civil war victims, Makkal Osai reported.
The money was given by the Malaysian Government in 2012 to help minority Tamils and schools which were affected by the war.
The association went to Sri Lanka the following year and distributed the money to help the victims, its lawyer and member A. Arumugam said.
The issue became controversial after S. Ananthi, the Northern Provincial council member for Jaffna district, demanded to know how the funds were handled.
Following her call for transparency regarding the funds, many Tamil groups in Malaysia have also demanded answers.
Meanwhile, Arumugam and other Peravai members have vowed to submit their report to the government and not to the critics.Air freight inspectors at the Chennai International Airport in Tamil Nadu, India, were shocked to discover a foot-long python inside a package, Tamil dailies reported.
