LAHORE: The Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) is properly monitoring textile industry for tax collections because it is the main earning sector of the national economy. This was stated by the Deputy Commissioner LTU Mehak Mansoor in an exclusive interview with Customs Today.
She said that under the guidance of Chief Commissioner Chaudhary Safder Hussain, the LTU has been showing outstanding performance for the last few years. Talking about the jurisdiction of the LTU, the deputy commissioner said that the Zone-II is collecting taxes from textile industries.
She said that Zone-II collect taxes from 41 companies which come under their jurisdiction, includeing Honda, Nishat and Bryze. Adding more, Mehak said that before the announcement of the federal budget 2016-17, LTU used to deal with refund claims. However, she said that refund claims did not fall under its jurisdiction after the budget.
Answering a question, Mehak said that IRIS the latest software introduce by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) make easy to understand all the taxation system all for senior and junior officers.
She said that tax collection is difficult task but LTU zone-II working efficiently and collecting more taxes to meet the revenue collection target. She told that LTU collect taxes from big company’s which falls under the jurisdiction of Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU), Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) also collect taxes from textile sector from low volume companies.
Mehak said that textile sector is expanding in Pakistan and tax collection from this sector also a big challenge. “In the renowned companies the tax collection from the salaries of directors came under the jurisdiction of Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) and salaries of the officials came under the jurisdictions of (RTOs). She said that now five percent tax levied on textile sector instead of three percent.
In answer to a question Deputy Commissioner Mehak Mansoor said that Large Taxpayers Unit is using all available resources to generate more revenue to strengthen national economy. She said that strong economy is vital for progress and development of any country.
She told that LTU zone-II formed teams for surprise visit of the companies to check and monitor textile companies. She said that during surprise visits LTU teams also detected tax evasion and recovered marginable amount.
Deputy Commissioner said each team assigned the task to create awareness among taxpayers for facilitation. LTU teams start proper monitoring of the textile companies to strengthen nation economy.
Mehk Mansoor added that leadership qualities, confidence and motivation by Chief Commissioner LTU Chudhary Safder Hussain is main reason that LTU showed outstanding performance because Safder Hussain having huge experience on taxation matters he also teaching on taxation system and performs as teacher in Directorate on Taxpayers (DOT).
Mehak told she always discussed important matters with seniors on daily basis and learns from their experiences, motivation by Chief Commissioner Chudhary Safder Hussain always encourage him. Commissioner Hamid Attique and Additional Commissioner Nawal Shiekh always guide him and plays vital role in tax collection.
She said that trust-based working atmosphere key to success. For capacity building of the officials, training workshop were arranged to discuss different issues of tax laws, he added.
