Low ratio of under-invoicing at LFU Wagha due to transparent mechanism

LAHORE: The number of cases related to under-invoicing and mis-declaration are very low at Pakistan Customs’ Land Freight Unit (LFU) Wagha due to a transparent mechanism.

Talking to Customs Today, an official said the ratio of under-invoicing and mis-declaration cases is higher at the Air Freight Unit and dry ports than the LFU Wagha.

He said that consignments were checked and examined at the yard available at Wagha border to match it with filed papers for imports or exports.

He added that due to the transparent system, all importers/exporters avoid indulgence in any illegal activity.

Another reason for this low ratio is the facilities and exemptions provided by the government in trade with India, he added.

He said that Pakistan Customs’ motive is to stop smuggling across the border, as such incidents could spoil the image of the country.

Keeping in view the sensitivity of the place, all customs officials perform their responsibilities properly, he said.

On the other hand, clearing agents said that a cooperative atmosphere has been provided to traders at Wagha by the customs’ officials, which results in healthy trade between India and Pakistan.
