WASHINGTON: Customs and Border Patrol officers at the Blue Water Bridge targeted for examination an express consignment package. The parcel, originating from London and manifested as automotive brake pads, was addressed to a Miami suburb. When the package was inspected, no automotive parts were inside. Instead, officers found 60 vials of yellow liquid wrapped in tin foil and bubble wrap. A field test of the substance was inconclusive so samples were subsequently sent to CBP’s Laboratories and Scientific Services for analysis. On March 13, the CBP lab identified the substance as anabolic steroids, which is a synthetic drug known for its performance enhancing capabilities.
“Our CBP Officers tirelessly work to intercept and seize illegal contraband,” said Andrew Douglas, the Port Huron port director. “I am proud of their tremendous effort and the positive results that are achieved by their vigilance and determination.” Anabolic steroids are a Schedule III controlled substance under federal regulations. The vials were seized by CBP.
