LHC adjourns pleas against imposition of luxury tax on two canal houses until Jan 12

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has adjourned a case against luxury tax until January 12.

In the last hearing on Wednesday, Excise and Taxation Department lawyers and the Punjab chief secretary representatives argued to the court that according to finance bill provincial government is independent to impose any tax on any property.

The government sought more time to submit their replies against applications of stay orders on luxury tax.

The court has now extended the stay order and adjourned the case until January 12 for further hearing.

The Punjab government has imposed the luxury tax on two or more than two kanal houses. Several citizens took stay order against the tax. As many as 70 applications have been filed in the LHC against the luxury tax.
