LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) has stopped an implementation on a notice issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to Punjab University. FBR sent Rs35million income tax notice to the university. LHC also seeks a reply from the Federal Board of Revenue in the case.
Justice Abid Eziz Shiekh heard the case filed by Jamia Punjab in which the income tax notice issued by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has been challenged. Counsel for Punjab University Malik Ahmed Awais has raised the point that the FBR has sent the notice.
Punjab University is an educational institution which is exempted from the income tax, counsel prayed before the court to declare null and void the income tax notice issued by the FBR to Punjab University.
After hearing the arguments from complainant, the Lahore High Court (LHC) stopped the implementation on the income tax notice. LHC also seeks reply from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on the next date of hearing. Case has been adjourned by the court.
