LHC seeks reply from govt on tax amnesty scheme on June 20

LAHORE: The tax amnesty scheme challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC) in which the petitioner pleaded the court to declare the scheme as null and void.

Court issued notices to the federal government and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and sought reply on June 20. The court has been adjourned till date.

According to the details, the petitioner prayed the court that the federal government introduced the scheme to provide relief to the tax defaulters by giving them exemptions from filing of tax returns and audit of ten years.

The applicant further said that government is making discrimination between traders and public as the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) took actions against the common people for not paying the tax but defaulters of millions of rupees were being facilitated by the government.

Government introduced tax amnesty scheme without approval from the Parliament and there is no space in the Constitution and law for such type of amnesty scheme.

The petitioner requested to to declare the scheme as null and void.
