LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notices to the federal government on a petition challenging tax amnesty scheme for traders.
Petitioner advocate Sheraz Zaka submitted that the tax amnesty scheme for traders had been passed by parliament through Income Tax Amendment Act 2016, which was ‘discriminatory’.
Zaka said that under the scheme, traders were given exemption from audit as well as from filing wealth statement until 2018. He said that instead of bringing structural reforms, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) was giving cushion to these traders and other people like lawyers and doctors should also be facilitated. He asked the court to strike down the tax amnesty scheme for being discriminatory. Justice Shahid Karim issued notices to the respondents’ adjourned hearing until November 17.
