LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) extended stay order against collection of luxury tax till July 23 on the houses of two canals and more the two canals, besides directing the counsel for both parties to present arguments in the case.
Court also ordered to make government committee on tax exemption in order to solve the matters by considering the suggestion of the taxpayers.
The two-member bench in supervision of Justice Shahid Jameel Khan heard the case on luxury tax where counsel for appellant, Azhar Sadiq and others argued that Punjab government amended finance act and imposed luxury tax on two canals homes that was illegal.
Citizens already paying property tax and double taxation cannot be imposed, adding that homes which were built before 2000 were exempted from luxury tax.
Government advocate argued in front of bench that government has authority of legislation in any type.
