LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has restricted the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to collect tax from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and seeks reply from the Federal Board of Revenue.
Justice Ayasha A Mailk heard the case file by the Chief Finance Officer Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Badar M Khan.
During proceedings of case the counsel for appellant argued before the court that Pakistan Cricket Board is an institution working for the promotion of sports in country and according to the policy of Government of Pakistan the PCB is exempted from taxes.
He prayed that under section 236-A of Income Tax Ordinance 2001 tax impose only on individuals Pakistan Cricket Board is not treated like individuals.
He argued that Pakistan Cricket Board is functioning for the grace and honour of country not for any private purpose besides this Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has sent notice for two years of amounting Rs400 million of advance tax at the time when foreigner players came in the Pakistan. Counsel prayed that court may suspend the FBR notice.
After hearing arguments from the appellant side, Lahore High Court restricted FBR for tax collection till further order from the Pakistan Cricket Board and seeks reply from the Commissioner of Income Tax Inland Revenue (CIR) on the next date of hearing.
