HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Customs Preventive Sukkur, confiscated the foreign origin non-duty-paid 599 crates or 14,376 tin packs of smuggling Iranian Rani juice and 730 cartons or 151,200 pieces of smuggling chocolates valued at Rs2.3million involving duties and taxes of Rs1.5million during an action near toll plaza, Sukkur division, during the past 10 days of August 2017/18.
Following a tip-off received by Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq, the ASO team conducted a raid there to abort a smuggling bid. Under the supervision of Additional Collector Amir Nawaz Hamid, ASO team, comprising Deputy Collector Zam Zam Aman, In-Charge Checkpost Inspector Makhan Khan Behan, Inspectors Jurial Abbasi, Ayaz Alishah, Sepoys and a Driver and others, participated in the action executed against the smuggling.
The ASO, by carrying out an operation, recovered the abovementioned non-duty-paid items being smuggled into Pakistan without the payment of duties and taxes causing the national treasury a loss.
The ASO lodged the separate cases of smuggling against the accused and forwarded the cases to the customs adjudication for further proceedings. After a seizure report, the ASO team deposited the impounded items into the Sukkur State Warehouse.
Talking with Customs Today, customs officials said the efforts are on to arrest the smuggling in the region as surveillance has also been enhanced on roads to keep an eye on the smuggling contraband items and NDP vehicles.
