KUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti Air Cargo section’s officials foiled an attempt of smuggling two small drones equipped with developed imaging devices having the ability to identify locations and copy data from documents on a specially designed flash memory.
The customs officers found the drones among a shipment of toys which arrived from China. Officers concluded these devices (replicas of toy planes) are not classified as toys and are banned especially after it became clear they can fly for long distances and to great heights.
The ‘planes’ have in-built high quality imaging and documenting devices and fitted with a remote control to take pictures and store them. A report on the incident has been sent to the security authorities. Meanwhile, personnel from the Kuwait Municipality (Capital Governorate Branch) recently carried out several surprise inspection campaigns on shops in Shuwaikh selling foodstuff and administratively shut down 19 stores, issued 100 citations, and confiscated and destroyed 440 kilos of spoiled fish.
