AMMON: Jordan is making headway in its efforts to secure gas imports from Egypt, but even a memorandum of understanding (MOU) struck between the two countries earlier this month has done little to quell disquiet in Amman over last year’s gas deals with Israel.
Ibrahim Saif, Jordan’s energy minister, met his Egyptian counterpart Tarek el-Molla in Amman on 2-3 April to sign the MOU. The deal covers the re-export of gas via existing infrastructure as well as the use of FSRUs moored at Ain Sokhna in Egypt and the Jordanian port of Aqaba in emergencies and during maintenance.
