FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Jhang has confiscated non-duty paid miscellaneous auto-parts worth Rs 296100 involving customs duty and taxes of Rs 94752.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhary received a tip-off that some elements were planning to smuggle contraband items. Consequently, he information Deputy Collector Muhammad Rizwan to curb smuggling. The deputy director along with his team intercepted a vehicle with registration No: JY-5369 near Dholi Shaheed Toll Plaza Multan Road, district Jhang.
During the searching of the vehicles, the ASO team recovered foreign origin (F/O) auto alternator (120 pcs) and auto self-starter (1300 kg). The team asked Driver Muhammad Hussain, a resident of tehsil Burewala, to produce any legal documented proof of lawful possession of the items but he failed. The ASO team seized the smuggled items under Section 16 and 18 of the Customs Act-1969.
The ASO team comprised Superintendent Saeed Akhtar Joiya, Inspectors Shaukat Khan, Munir Ahmad, Khalid Ashraf Noor and Sepoys Ghulam Abbas, Ghulam Sarwar, Muhammad Ajmal and Ahmad Baksh. The case has been forwarded to the Customs Adjudication.
