HONG KONG:Japan stocks hiked on Monday morning, heading for a fourth straight day of gains, after the U.S.stocks closed higher at the end of previous week.
The Nikkei Average NIK, +0.00% nudged higher by 0.1%, with the broader Topix I0000, +0.03% up 0.2%. The yen USDJPY, -0.07% meanwhile, strengthened against the dollar at ¥119.41, compared with ¥119.52 in the previous session. Energy shares advanced, following a rally in oil prices Friday last week.
Inpex Corporation 1605, +3.53% jumped 3.4%, and Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. 1662, +3.13% climbed 2.7%. Financials also gained, with Dai-Inchi Life Insurance Company, Ltd. 8750, +1.53% rising 1.4%, and Nomura Holdings, Inc. 8604, +0.27% up 0.6%. The tech sector traded mixed, as Olympus Corp. 7733, +0.57% tacked on 1.8%, SoftBank Corp. 9984, +0.58% moved up 1.5%, while Fanuc Corporation 6954, -1.37% declined 1.2%, and Nikon Corp. 7731, -1.36% fell 0.7%.
