ROME: Sun World Innovations, the fruit grower-marketer’s fruit breeding and licensing business unit, has added two Italian companies to the foreign companies allowed to grow proprietary Sun World seedless grapes.
Orchidea Frutta, Rutigliano, and the Salvi Group, Ferrara, can grow the Sun World seedless varieties in a country where most grapes are seeded, according to a Sun World release. The grapes will be sold in Italy and export markets.
Orchidea Frutta specializes in growing and distributing table grapes, stone fruit, cherries, citrus and artichokes, according to the release, and manages an 850-acre vineyard. The Salvi Group, a vertically integrated nursery company and grower, imports and exports fruit, including grapes, stone fruit, kiwifruit, apples, pears and strawberries. It has operations in Italy, France and Poland, supplying 60 countries, according to the release.Sun World licenses its fruit varieties to more than 70 marketers around the world. Grape varieties in the licensing program include Midnight Beauty, Scarlotta Seedless and Autumncrisp.
