Islamabad Customs troubling small sellers of fruits & vegetables in the name of contraband items

ISLAMABAD: The preventive staff of the MCC Islamabad is creating troubles for small sellers of fruits and vegetables in the name of smuggled goods while they cannot take any action against the godown holders at the Sabzi Mandi of Rawalpindi who are openly selling said perishable smuggled items.

According to details explained by different truckers and small businessmen that the Preventive Department launchs crackdown on the sellers of smuggled vegetables and fruits but victims cannot take any action against them because of many reasons.
The sources said that a loader owner cannot know that the perishable goods, being loaded on the trucks or suzukis, are smuggled and this is the responsibility of the government to tell the people through advertisement that how they can refrain from buying smuggled items.

During first week of March FY17-18, the ASO Islamabad impounded a Mazda truck bearing registration No: SGE 3900 which was coming from Sabzi Mandi loaded with seven tons of Irani apple. The ASO Islamabad auctionede off the above seized apple on the same day but the offending vehicle is still locked for the past two weeks.

The sources notified CT that it is a big question that how the perishable smuggled goods reach Sabzi Mandi and why Preventive Department does not stop them from coming towards Mandi. So the department must look into this matter carefully.
