KARACHI: Custom (Taxation & Anti-Smuggling) Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi awarded an 18-day imprisonment and Rs100000 fine to accused named Rustam Zaman S/o Muhammad Mousa booked in a case of attempting to smuggle/non-duty paid Iranian 40,000 liter HSD oil.
It needs to be mentioned here that in default of payment of fine, he shall suffer further six-month prison in Central Jail Karachi.
During the hearing, abovementioned accused appeared before the court and moved an application for pleading guilty and he was asked if he wants to plead guilty to the charge or claim to be tried, he should reply plead guilty and leaves himself at the mercy of the court.
After the hearing, court awarded 18-day imprisonment (already undergone period) and Rs100000 fine to him.
According to the prosecution, on credible information, staff of the custom department dated August 26, 2015 intercepted a track with registration no TKE-788 near Saba Cinema, New Karachi, and recovered 40,000 liters Iranian smuggled HSD Oil.
According to the prosecution, case was registered in violation of section 2 (s) 16, 157, (2) of the Customs Act-1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & (89) of sub section (1) read with sub section (2) of section 156 of the Customs Act-1969.
