ISLAMABAD: The Inland Revenue (IR) Intelligence and Investigation has launched a countrywide campaign against the dealers involved in the sale of smuggled cigarettes.
Sources told Customs Today that the IR Intelligence came to know that several shopkeepers were selling smuggled cigarettes in the twin cities.
They said that some factory owners were also involved in producing illegal cigarettes.
Sources further added that the Intelligence and Investigation Wing would dig out the people involved in such activities and action would be taken against them under the Federal Excise Duty Act, 2005, in which the accused can face up to five years in jail or Rs 500,000 penalty, or both, if someone is find selling smuggled cigarettes.
