KARACHI: The Indus Motors and Fauji Fertilizers are the major property tax evaders as an amount of more than Rs 465 million taxes is accumulated against them since the past couple of years, it is learnt.
Sources told Customs Today that M/s Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim Limited located at North Western Industrial Zone had to clear off long-pending dues worth Rs 436,802,230 while M/s Indus Motors, situated at North Western Industrial Zone, Port Qasim, had to pay off Rs 28,132,893 as tax.
“The property tax is levied and collected under the Sindh Urban Immovable Property Tax Act, 1958. And a uniform rate of tax is levied on all categories of properties at 25 percent of annual rental value”, sources elaborated.
Sources said that three committees had been formed comprising excise and taxation officers (ETOs) and assistant excise and taxation officers (AETOs) who would ensure recovery of the outstanding dues at the earliest.
And, if the companies failed to give positive response, then the Sindh excise and taxation department would take stern action against them, they concluded.
