ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Islamabad impounded Indian cumin and black cardamom along with an offending vehicle (Vehicle carrying smuggling goods) worth Rs4.49million from Rawalpindi.
According to details given by Assistant Collector ASO Islamabad Majid Hussain Gadd while talking with Customs Today that, on a tip-off shared by Dr. Saeed Khan Jadoon, Collector Model Customs Collectorate, an attempt of smuggling goods is expected on GT Road Rawalpindi.
Assistant Collector told CT that the ASO squad set up a picked near Faizabad (Rawalpindi) and intercepted a Hino loader with registration No: TKK-869 which was coming from Chakohi (Kashmir). After the interception of the offending vehicle, the ASO staff asked the possessor to show the legal documents of the items but he failed to produce any documentary proofs.
The ASO staff took into possession the goods along with the offending vehicle under the relevant provisions of the Customs Act-1969. The items include 333 bags of Indian origin cumin valued at Rs2.09million and 1,250 kilogram of Indian black cardamom priced at Rs0.39million. So the ASO impounded the offending vehicle, Model 1996, worth Rs2.0million.
A case has been lodged against the possessor of the goods and offending vehicle and forwarded to Investigation and Prosecution Department for further action.
