KARACHI: Importer namely Muhammad Akif approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) for after-arrest bail, who was booked in a case of attempting to smuggle fraudulent clearance of restricted betel nuts in the garb of mixed used cloths for processing at Karachi Export Processing Zone (KEPZ), Karachi.
It needs to be mentioned here that trial court had dismissed bail petitions of suspects namely Muhammad Akif, Hamal Baloch and Fahad Ali.
On December 15, 2108, counsel for accused filed bail petition and argued that his client is innocent and was falsely implicated in this case. He further argued that trial court dismissed bail application of his client without consideration of facts and relevant law, therefore, court may grant bail till final judgment of this case.
According to the FIR, owners/partners/ directors of M/s Hands Industries Private Limited imported a consignment and declared it as 19000 kilogram mixed used cloths valuing of Rs840,787, however, during the examination, customs team found 26985 kg betel nuts valuing of Rs4,986,828 and evaded the duties and taxes in the tune of Rs6,240,716.
He said that Muhammad Akif, Fahad Ali, Hammal Baloch and others are in judicial custody; however, owners/ directors of above mentioned Hands Industries are still absconders and prosecution team is trying its best for their arrest.
