ISLAMABAD: The International Mail Office Islamabad undertook seven seizures valued Rs21.867million during the first seven months of Financial Year 2016-17. The customs staff deputed at the International Mail Office (IMO) Chaklala Rawalpindi confiscated a big quantity of heroin during above said period under the supervision of Assistant Collector Sadia Usman.
Giving an exclusive interview to Customs Today, IMO Assistant Collector said during above said period, the IMO impounded seven seizures at the IMO. Five out of seven cases pertain to drugs (Heroin Powder) whereas one each is of psychotropic drugs and cigarettes (Pakistan origin Gold Leaf).
The IMO was assigned the target for seven months (July to January FY16-17) to collect Rs9.87millions from all three stations but a higher income of Rs11.54millions was earned, thus showing surplus revenue of Rs1.67millions.
Assistant Collector IMO Sadia Usman, telling Customs Today about the details of heroin cases under her supervision, said she joined the IMO in March 2016 during which five big confiscations of heroin smuggling were undertaken at the International Mail Office Chaklala including some arrests of smugglers. She said first heroin case was registered on 12-03-2016 during clearance of export parcels at International Mail office Chaklala with a parcel No. CB000025955PK booked by Muhammad Maskeen, Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield S-6 1TZ, UK. The parcel comprised of cooking utensils. The detailed examination of the parcel led to recovery of 1.750 kg of heroin powder concealed in the bottom of cooking pots.
The second detection of heroin was executed on 08-04-2016 during clearance of export parcels at the same office. The parcel bore registration No. RA000097700PK booked by Gulzaib, Mohallah Tariqabad Khattak, for Kenn Brown, 2100 N Sherman Circle, USA. The parcel comprised of a general knowledge book. Detailed examination of the parcel led to the recovery of 205 grams of heroin concealed in the binding of a book.
Third seizure of heroin was carried out On 02-05-2016 during clearance of export registry parcels at the International Mail Office Chaklala Rawalpindi with registration No. RB005780815PK booked by Raja Waqas Ali for Cheetham Hill, Manchester, UK. The parcel comprised of three books and a ladies suit. A thorough check of the parcel led to the recovery of 350 grams of heroin powder concealed in the binding of the books.
Detection of fourth case of heroin was executed on 23-06-2016 during clearance of export parcels at International Mail Office Chaklala Rawalpindi with a parcel registration No. CB031717431PK booked by Tahir Ali, Ashrat Road, Hassan Abdal, for Hey Barnes Rd, Birmingham, UK. The parcel comprised of three ladies purses. A detailed search of the parcel led to the recovery of 250 grams of heroin powder hidden in the foam lining of purses.
The fifth case of heroin was intercepted on 04-08-2016 during clearance of export registry parcels with registration No. RA000097905PK booked by one Jalal Ahmad S/o Raza Ahmad for Shahmir Ansam, 8610 North Sherman Circle Apt, USA. The parcel consisted of 01 book. A thorough examination led to the recovery of 210 grams of heroin powder concealed into the cavities made in the hard-binding of the book.
