ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized a ceremony in honor of Pakistan’s Special Olympics squad that won 35 medals in Special Olympics 2015 concluded recently in Loss Angeles, USA. Mehfooz Elahi, Head of Pakistan’s Special Olympics squad and former President ICCI, Arshad Javed, National Director Sports, Special Olympics, Saeed Ahmed Bhatti coach special Basketball team and a large number of special players and their parents attended the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Muzzamil Hussain Sabri, president, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry said that in these circumstances, winning 35 medals for the country was a great achievement of Pakistan’s Special Olympics squad and added that the whole nation was proud of their performance.
He urged that government should pay special attention to these players, provide them financial patronage, arrange more grounds for them and consider allocating special quota in jobs for them so that they could play more effective role in society. He assured that ICCI would cooperate with these players so that they could gain more achievements in sports for the country.
Arshad Javed, National Director Sports, Special Olympics said that Pakistan Sports Board provided accommodation and facilities for training of special players, but government did not extend any kind of support. He said if government patronize, these players have the potential to achieve more successes for the country. He said more volunteers should come forward and help in training and development of special players.
