HYDERABAD: Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation on Thursday morning seized non-duty paid hard fabric (used in curtain and covered roof) worth Rs 7 million included truck being used in smuggling.
Sources told Customs Today, that Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Fayyaz Anwar received credible information about smuggling of non-customs paid cloth. He immediately formed a team which enhanced checking on Attri Bypass. The team intercepted a truck bearing registration no: SJ-8302 was spotted coming from Quetta.
During checking the Customs I&I team recovered assorted hard fabric (used in curtain and covered roof) from the truck with different type of papers. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Mudassir Ahmed who produced a Goods Declaration (GDs) which did not match with goods.
The claimants of the goods failed to produce any documentary evidence of legal import/possession of the goods. Thus it stands established that the goods were brought into the country through unauthorized routes without payment of duty and taxes. The goods have been seized, worth of vehicle which was being used in smuggling is about Rs2.2 million.
Director Fayyaz Anwar has appreciated the efforts of anti-smuggling squads and his team for the outstanding performance.
