HYDERABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate enhanced the checking on the main routes of the city. Due to these strict measures, the customs authorities foiled many attempts of smuggling.
The Model Customs Collectrate’s Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Hyderabad, Customs Preventive Jacobabad, has impounded foreign origin non-duty-paid nine small bags of black tea weighed 405 kilograms worth Rs202500 involving duties and taxes of Rs72637in a crackdown during the first week of April 2018.
Additional Collector Dr Aamer Nawaz Hamid received a tip-off about the smuggling of non-duty-paid black tea. He immediately constituted a special team consisting of a customs officer and other staff.
The ASO team started searching the vehicles near customs check-post Jacobabad and intercepted a vehicle loaded with nine small sacks of 405kg kilograms of black tea. The team asked the driver to show documents of the legal import and possession of the item but he failed to do so.
The ASO team deposited the confiscated black tea into the Sukkur State Warehouse and forwarded the case to the customs adjudication for further proceeding.
