KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Hyderabad has initiated crackdown on fraudulent importers, involved in import of vehicles on fake letters and through unfair means.
The Additional Collector MCC Hyderabad, Umer Shafiq informed Customs Today that the collectorate while following the directives of Chief Collector Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem and Collector MCC Hyderabad, Dr Ahmed Mujtaba Memon has launched a crackdown against importers breaching the law while importing vehicles.
To a query, Additional Collector Umer Shafiq said that the collectorate has already recovered 12 non-duty paid vehicles which have been imported into the country without paying legitimate duty/taxes.
He further said that the authorities concerned of the collectorate have also arrested an accused who found involve in importing the vehicles without paying due duty/taxes.
The Additional Collector further informed this scribe that the authorities concerned of the collectorate have also taken action against the diesel/petrol smugglers.
He apprised that the collectorate has seized 200,000 liters Iranian smuggled petrol/diesel from the vicinity of the collectorate and the actions were being taken to uproot the smuggling of Iranian diesel/petrol.
Sources also informed that the customs authorities were also planning to scrutinize the role of customs officials in smuggling of diesel/petrol from different check-posts falling in the jurisdiction of the Collectorate.
Moreover, the Chief Collector Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem and Collector MCC Hyderabad, Dr Ahmed Mujtaba Memon have lauded the efforts of officers and officials of the collectorate who are taking part in crackdowns.
