KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the Hyderabad Collectorate of Customs has intensified its efforts to curb smuggling in the region. It has constituted various teams which thwarted many attempts of smuggling during recent past.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Customs Hyderabad Agha Shahid Majeed directed officials not to spare any petrol pumps which found involved in selling smuggled Iranian diesel. After receiving such directions, ASO destroyed many petrol pumps which were involved in selling non-duty paid Iranian diesel and petrol.
Sources said that during a recent crackdown, ASO authorities seized 20 valued hawks and non-duty paid cosmetics. According to the sources, Collector Agha Shahid Majeed received information about some suspicious activities in the region. He constituted a team under the supervision of Additional Collector Umer Shafiq.
The ASO team raided a godown which was situated in Latifabad area and reovered 20 valuable hawks. ASO team after arresting the suspects started interrogations from them. During initial investiations it was revealed that smugglers were planning to smuggle these hawks to Iran. The market value of seized hawks is in million of rupees.
Sources said that during another crackdown ASO team during routine cheking of vehicles recovered huge quantity of foreign origin cosmatics boxes from a van. The market value of seized cosmatics boxes are in millions of rupees. Sources said that four persons were already board on van who failed to provide any relevant documents regarding possession and transportation of cosmatics boses.
ASO team arrested all the four persons and registered a case of smuggling against them. ASO team shifted them to undisclosed location for interrogations.
