HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has confiscated foreign origin 500 cartons and 24000 pieces of smuggled fruity soap made in Indonesia worth Rs1.2 million involving duty and taxes Rs568.800 during first fifteen days of November. The goods were recovered near Toll Plaza Shikarpur Sukkur.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Hyderabad Akhlaq Ahmad Khattak received a tip-off regarding the smuggling attempt. He formed an ASO team comprising customs authorities assistant collectors, inspectors, sepoys, driver and other staff
Sources told following directions of Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq, the ASO team is executing various operations in the region to thwart the smuggling attempts.
The ASO team intercepted a vehicle near Toll Plaza Shikarpur and recovered above mentioned items. The team asked the driver of the vehicle to show the legal documents regarding the possession of the goods, but he failed to do so.
During checking of vehicle the ASO team recovered foreign origin 500 cartons and 24000 pieces of fruity soap made in Indonesia involved duties and taxes of Rs1768800. The ASO made a seizure report and deposited the items into Sukkur State Warehouse
The sources told that Collector of Customs Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq directed the officials of the ASO to adopt a zero tolerance against the smugglers who are out to destroy the legal business of the city.
Officials said all possible measures will be adopted to arrest the smugglings in the region as vigilance has also been enhanced.
