HYDERABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO Hyderabad Customs Preventive Sukkur-Larkana) has seized 220 foreign origin Samsung Galaxy tablets and 10 Samsung Galaxy mobiles worth Rs03.6million involving customs duty and taxes of Rs01.6million during a recent action at Sukkur check-post, railway station Rohri.
The Collector Model Customs Collectorate MCC Hyderabad Ikhlaq Ahmed Khattaq directed his staff to curb smuggling attempts in the region. Additional Collector Rehmatulah Vistro received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of foreign origin smuggled and non-custom-duty paid mobiles and tablets.
He formed a team comprising ASO Customs Preventive Sukkur Assistant Collector Mumtaz Ali Ghangro, Inspector Makhan Khan Bahan, Sepoys, Driver and others. The ASO team intercepted a vehicle public transport near check-post Sukkur at Railway Station Rohri and recovered the said goods.
The officials asked the driver to produce documents regarding the legal import of the items but he could not prove anything. The team impounded the items under the Customs Act. A case was registered against the accused. The case has been sent to the customs adjudication for further legal action.
The ASO deposited the confiscated goods into Sukkur State Warehouse.
