BUDAPEST: Retail sales in Hungary saw a year-on-year increase of 6.5% in March, with retail sales reaching HUF 724 billion during the month at current prices, in absolute terms, a second reading of data published today by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reveals. The rise followed February’s year-on-year increase of 6.4%.
Data from KSH suggest that food, drinks and tobacco stores accounted for 49% of all retail sales, while the relevant figures for non-food retail shops and the network of gas stations were one third (34%) and 17% respectively.
In year-on-year terms, the volume of retail sales increased by 5.1%, while the volume of sales increased by 4.0% in specialized and non-specialized food retailing, KSH said. The volume of sales grew by 4.6% in non-specialized food, drinks and tobacco stores accounting for 79% of food retailing and by 1.1% in specialized food, beverage and tobacco stores, KSH added.
