KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate Gwadar foiled an attempt to smuggle 18,000 liter of Iranian diesel into Pakistan and arrested two accused.
Sources told Customs Today that Collector Gwadar Feroz Alam Junejo received a tip-off about the smuggling of Iranian diesel. He immediately constituted a customs team under the supervision of Assistant Collector Kaleem Ullah.
The customs team, comprising Inspector Wahid Ali Khan, Shamim Yousufi and Daulat Khan, set up a picket at the entry and exit points of the city and started checking of the vehicles.
During the checking, the customs team intercepted an oil tanker with registration NO: KA-3812. The team asked the driver of the vehicle to produce the legal documents regarding the transportation of loaded oil but he failed to do so. The customs team arrested the driver and other one and registered a case of smuggling against him. The team recovered the said quantity of Iranian diesel and impounded the truck worth Rs2.3million.
Sources said the Customs Gwadar authorities are using all available resources to curb the smuggling attempts in the region. Due to a strict checking, marginal decrease is being witnessed in the smuggling of Iranian oil.
It may be remembered that Customs Collectorate Gwadar recovered big quantity of smuggling items in June valued at Rs9.92million.
