SIALKOT: The officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department Gujranwala Region have formulated a foolproof plan to monitor the activities of goods transport companies in Gujranwala division’s all the six districts including Gujranwala ,Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din and Hafizabad.

According to senior officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department, this direly needed step is being taken following the involvement of various goods transport companies in smugglings. They disclosed that the smugglers were smuggling valuables, including auto parts, computer parts, imported cloths, tyres, tea, mobile phones, LCDs, LEDs, cumin seeds, toys, compressors and other items, from Afghanistan and Mirpur (AJK). They further send these smuggled valuables after booking them for different districts of Punjab through these goods transport companies.

The special teams of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department Gujranwala Region have started checking these goods transport companies. The officials revealed that the goods transport companies if found indulged in such kind of smuggling would be brought to book. Meanwhile, the owners of goods transport companies have expressed grave concern over this step by the Customs Intelligence. They said they were not doing any illegally activity nor was the management of any goods transport company involved in smuggling.

The officials will check the vehicle as per law and under the Customs Act-1969. He said only a foolproof plan can monitor the activities of good transport companies instead of disturbing the companies while the management of companies should cooperate with department to eradicate the smuggling.
