ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar clarified that to resolve the issue of dual taxes in the country, government has decided to discuss during the Council of Common Interests (CII) meeting, while the basic reason behind revenue shortfall is the low taxes imposed on petroleum products.
Talking to media, Hammad Azhar has said that government has planned not to follow the policy of imposing indirect taxes which is the main reason behind putting burden on the citizens.
He added that government is also taking serious steps and forming a policy for curbing money laundering and currency smuggling however, it is a serious issue so government is taking all the stakeholders in on board forming anti-money laundering policy.
He further said that Finance Minister Asad Umar is visiting FBR headquarters every month and reviewing the tax and revenue related matters, government to broaden the tax net on priority basis and for this purpose, FBR is directed to issue notices to all those who have luxury life without paying taxes. In this regard, integration of different departments and smooth coordination among the state institutions is important.
State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar also said that telecom sector is one of the most revenue generating sectors; however, its issue is still in the court for adjudication.
