KARACHI: The government will consider a new tax amnesty scheme after receiving proposals from business community, Finance Minister Asad Umar said on Saturday.
He said that business community has sought another tax amnesty. “The Prime Minister has directed the finance ministry to take proposals from the business community,” the finance minister said at a seminar organized by Pakistan Business Council.
He said that the government was not in favor of giving any amnesty which failed to generate revenue and just to benefit some individuals.
Asad Umar said that he had submitted reservations on the previous amnesty scheme and it was on the record.
He, however, said that if the business community submitted proposals with rationales the amnesty would be considered.
The finance minister said that the government was giving priority to reform Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in order to make this business friendly.
Asad Umar said that Pakistan will witness revolution after reforms in banking sector. He said that current economic condition of the country is not due to political crisis but its due to current international financial crisis.
He said that banking sector should be operational according to latest techniques. He said previous government did not bother to pay any heed in this regard but current government is bringing reforms in banking sector.
Pakistan Business Council chairman Syed Yawar Ali also highlighted key factors behind economic growth.
