Govt seeks feasibility report for constructing terminal at Sher Shah Customs Station

MULTAN: Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed sought feasibility report for construction of terminal at Sher Shah Customs Station of Multan Dry Port.

Multan Dry Port Trust (MDPT) planning to construct multi-mode transit hub for clearance of shipments through customs terminal at Muzaffargarh Railway Station. The establishment of multi-mode transit hub at Muzaffargarh Railway Station will connect Port Qasim Karachi and Multan Dry Port through cargo train service for clearance of import and export consignment. The said project is facing unnecessary delay from Pakistan Railway authorities after raising several objections in the construction proposal.

Federal Minister of Railway Sheikh Rasheed directed authorities of Railways to submit feasibility report for construction of Sher Shah multi-mode transit hub where railway will facilitate importers and exporters of South Punjab for transportation of their import and export shipment through cargo.

Divisional Superintendent Railway Multan Amir Daud Pota and Divisional Engineer Shoaib Iqbal visited the Muzaffargarh Terminal for prepraring feasibility report. During the visit divisional engineer have also examined the technical aspects of the project in their visit.

They have also visited the Multan Dry Port and met with Assistant Collector Muhammad Ikram, Chairman Multan Dry Port Trust Khawaja Muhammad Faazil, General Manager Multan Dry Port Trust Col (r) to discuss viability of Sher Shah Cargo Terminal.

Talking with Customs Today Chairman Multan Dry Port Trust Khawaja Muhammad Faazil said that newly elected government of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf is showing keen interest in the progress of Sher Shah Cargo terminal for the Customs Station to facilitate business community of South Punjab. He said that feasibility report of Sher Shah Terminal is almost ready and it will be submitted next week to Ministry of Railway for approval. Joint Working team of Railway, Customs and Multan Dry Port Trust has been formed for proposed project and it will discuss mutual matters for its establishment.

Multan Customs is also supporting Multan Dry Port Trust for the establishment of multi model transit hub at Muzaffargarh Railway Station which will promote import and export of South Punjab region. It will handle almost 4000 import and export average containers from Muzaffargarh Custom’s terminal every month through downward and upward Railway cargo service for the clearance.

It will also flourish the local manufacturing industry of the South Punjab and create new door for the opportunities in the Region after its establishment.
