ISLAMABAD: The federal government has established a Directorate General of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) under the umbrella of Pakistan Customs.
The Directorate General shall consist of a Director General and as many Directors, Additional Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors and such other officers as the Board may appoint.
Moreover, all officers of Inland Revenue, Police, Civil Armed Forces, National Highway and Motorway Police and all officers engaged in the collection of land revenue are required to assist officers of Customs in the discharge of their functions.
Through Finance Bill 2017-18, the FBR has sought powers by inserting new section 3AAA for the Directorate General of CPEC to provide for effective supervision and monitoring of trade flows between China and Pakistan.
Under clause 2 (3), FBR seeks to insert new section 3AAA to create legal provision for establishment of a Directorate General CPEC to provide for effective supervision and monitoring of trade flows under this strategic initiative of the government
