Says business community will never accept Budget 2017-18 unless Rs280b refunds, rebates reimbursed
LAHORE: The decision of Pakistan Senate about raiding factories and traders outlet after permission of Federal Board of Revenue Chairman and Members is landmark. Business community will never accept Budget 2017-18 unless the government reimburse Rs280 billion refunds and rebate. Tax evaders are evading taxes with due convince of the officials tax authorities.
These views were expressed by Lahore Chamber of Commerce office-bearers and executive committee members held a meeting in connection with the decision of Senate of Pakistan which disallowed tax officials from raiding businessmen’s factories and outlets sans permission of chairman and members.
The decision was made by the Chairman Standing Committee of Senate on Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistic LCCI President Abdul Basit, Vice President Nasir Hameed and others who were present on the occasion.
On the occasion, Nasir Hameed said that the government and its functionaries have been hard and strict to collect taxes and revenues which they should also be equally effective and efficient in repaying the huge refunds and rebates of the business community.
He said that due to the refunds and rebates of Rs 280 billion are not being repaid to the business the very sizes of business countrywide has reduced to a significant level.
He said that the refunds and rebates should immediately be paid back to the business community so the business volume may be increased.
Answering a question Amjad Ali Jawa, replied that they have never defended the tax evaders are deadly against them.
“We have never defended those who are not paying their taxes. Taxes should be paid as it is the duty of every law abiding citizen,” he said.
President Abdul Basit underlined the issues of misuse of discretionary powers of the Inland Revenue Officers under Section 38A, 38B, 40A, 40B, 176 & 177 and raids on business premises. He said that Chairman of the Senate Committee Saleem Mandviwalla took a prompt action and decided/recommended that in future no raid would be conducted by the FBR officials without the permission of the Chairman FBR or a Member concerned at any industry, factory or shop holders, who are taxpayers/filers.
