PESHAWAR: The government has decided to upgrade Chaman and Torkham transit trade terminal by providing state of the art facilities at the cost of millions of rupees, funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Official sources said that the terminal under one roof will consist of the Pakistan Custom, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), immigration and NADRA offices which will facilitate the movement of goods and traveller across the borders. The work on this terminal will start in July 2016 with the help of the Frontier Works Organization.
The officials have started negotiation with various tribes of Landi Kotal and Torkham to acquire land of 700 kanal for this purpose. In this connection various organizations like USAID and ADB has also completed their survey to estimate the total cost of the project.
This terminal will have also facilities of export and import yard where transporters will be provided easy opportunity to wait for their turn and custom clearance.
The tribes have been agreed to provide land for this purpose while funds already allocated under ADB program to make the project successful one.
It is merit to mention that the state of the art terminal at Torkham border was a long awaited demand of the business community and transporters which will help facilitate the importers and exporters.
