WASHINGTON: The cabinet committee on purchase yesterday approved a proposal to import 25,000 tonnes of urea.
The government will buy fertiliser at $273.32 a tonne. The committee also approved a proposal for the construction of eight 16-storey buildings in Uttara at a cost of Tk 341 crore. The buildings will have 672 flats with 1,250 square feet each.
The committee also approved a proposal for the appointment of a consultant for building eight steel silos. The silos will be built under the Modern Food Storage Facility project with financial assistance from the World Bank.
Different crops, including rice and wheat, are damaged by floods and other natural disasters every year. The WB in 2013 approved a $210 million fund for building modern silos in different areas of Bangladesh.
