A clash ensued between police team and fuel smugglers at bordering area in Jagarnathpur Rural Municipaliy of Parsa district on Tuesday morning.
Four police personnel were injured when the patrolling team clashed with smugglers as the latter were smuggling fuel on motorcycles into Devigunj of India through Pandepur in Parsa at around 3 am this morning. Some locals also reached in aid of the smugglers and clashed with the police team. The smugglers prevailed over the police team and took away their guns.
Assistant sub-inspectors Bishnu Dev Yadav and Jaya Kishun Mahato, head constable Prem Thapa and constables Arjun Chaudhary were injured in the incident. Constable Chaudhary is said to be in critical condition. He has been receiving treatment at SL Neuro and General Hosptial in Panitanki, Birgunj.
Another police team under Parsa SP Rewati Dhakal and DSP Man Bahadur Rai had reached the clash site later. SP Dhakal said the smugglers ran towards India and will be arrested after coordination with their Indian counterparts. The arms taken by smugglers were later found on a field nearby.
