MULTAN: The Federal Tax Ombudsman has issued notice to Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Regional Tax Office (RTO) in their failure to collect advance income tax from owners of housing societies, luxury bungalows and plots.
Sources told Customs Today that it came into the notice of Federal Tax Ombudsman that Regional Tax Office has shown inefficiency and negligence in the collection of advance income tax collection.
Negligence of responsible officials of RTO was pointed who were assigned to collect advance income tax but they failed to fulfill their responsibility and they have not properly pursued taxpayers for the collection of advance income tax.
It is pertinent to mention here, that advance income tax was collected from owners of housing societies, luxury bungalows villas and on expansive plots. Advance income tax was collected on the sale and purchase of plots, houses, villas under section 236 and 236 –c of income tax ordinance 2001 but regional tax officials failed to do so.
The Regional Tax Office has failed to collect advance income tax from potential taxpayers in the jurisdiction which cause huge loss to national exchequer.
