ISLAMABAD: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a meeting with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at Foreign Office on Saturday. The two foreign ministers held discussions on bilateral relations and cooperation in diverse fields. Pakistan and China also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for educational cooperation.
The MoU was signed by Executive Director Higher Education Commission from Pakistan and Vice Chairman of Chinese International Development Cooperation Agency.
Under the agreement, China will provide E-learning facility and establishment of smart schools in Pakistan.
Earlier, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Islamabad to attend the third round of China-Pakistan-Afghanistan trilateral foreign ministers’ dialogue. Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi received him at the Noor Khan Airbase.
The dialogue is scheduled to be held today under the chairmanship of Mr Qureshi, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO).
The agenda of the dialogue is focused on political relations and the peace process, security cooperation and counter terrorism, and development cooperation and connectivity.
Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi and Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Salahuddin Rabbani are leading their respective delegations.
Earlier, Mr Qureshi told the media that the entire region would prosper if peace and stability were achieved in Afghanistan. “The peace is Afghanistan would reflect itself in Pakistan,” he affirmed.
First round of the trilateral dialogue was held in Beijing in 2017 and the second was arranged in Kabul in 2018 for building political confidence, development and co-operation between the states.
The talks will bring greater harmony between the three countries on matters of common interest.
