HELSINKI: Finland’s foreign trade deficit decreased notably in August from a year ago, as exports grew much faster than imports, preliminary figures from Finland Customs Office showed Monday.
The trade deficit fell to EUR 150 million in August from EUR 481 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. Both the value of exports and imports advanced by 18.0 percent and 9.0 percent, respectively in August from last year.
Exports to EU countries surged 21.0 percent and those to non-EU countries by 14.0 percent. During the eight months of the year, total trade deficit of the country was EUR 1.4 billion versus a shortfall of almost EUR 2.0 billion in the same period of 2016.
